Terral Seed Wheat Research

It is our goal to identify and develop superior southern adapted wheat varieties that provide farmers with increased value, stability, and profitability; release lines with outstanding disease packages and high yield.

Objectives

  • Improve harvestable yield.
  • Reduce losses from diseases and pests increasing yield stability.
  • Diversify germplasm backgrounds across varieties.
  • Specific Yield Attributes
  • Disease resistance and tolerance
  • Growth on multiple soil types
  • Improved test weight
  • Improved seed quality
  • "wet feet" tolerance.

To achieve these objectives, researchers work to:

  • Maximize number of southern adapted lines. Terral Seed Research yield tests over 1500 unique varieties and experimental lines at three levels each year targeted at just the South.

  • Plant small plot tests which screen out disease susceptible lines, lines with reduced test weight and low yielders.

  • Plant strip advancement plots which geographically target wheat varieties to locations within the Mid-South and verify disease data.

  • Conduct greenhouse, lab, and field disease screening nurseries that identify specific genes that confer disease resistance to get that durable resistance that does not fade in one year.

  • Diversify genetic backgrounds of wheat varieties.

  • Develop varieties with diverse maturities to fit geographical design.

TERRAL SEED RESEARCH DEVELOPS THE BEST, MOST ADAPTED, VALUE DRIVEN VARIETIES AND HYBRIDS IN THE SOUTH!

Products are yield tested across multiple years and locations targeting Southern environments, disease pressures and soils. Biotech and value added traits are incorporated into products without sacrificing yield or stability. Terral Seed's soybean and wheat varieties and corn and grain sorghum hybrids are proven producers for Southern farmers.
